History

NUPSAW Established 13 August 1998

National Union Of Public Service and Allied Workers (NUPSAW) is a non-partisan union that mainly protects and promotes the interests of workers within the public service.

The Union is a result of two years of negotiations and relationship building between registered unions with similar interest and goals, which culminated in the amalgamation of the following unions:

  • Health Workers Union (HWU) Established : 1987.
  • National Public Sector Association (NAPSA) Established :
  • National Civil Service Organization (NACSO) Established :1994
  • South African Health & Public Service Workers Union (SAHPSWU) Established: 1989
  • South African Court Interpretation Officers & Allied Workers Union (SACIOAWU) Established : 1994
  • Public Servants Union (PSU) Established :
  • The Union has signed-up membership of approximately 60 000 and was registered with the registrar of Labour Relations in the Department of Labour on the 13t August 1998.
