    History

    NUPSAW Established 13 August 1998

National Union Of Public & Allied Workers (NUPSAW) is a non-partisan union that mainly protects and promotes the interests of workers within the public service.

The Union is a result two years of negotiations and relationship building between registered unions with similar interest and goals, which culminated in the amalgamation of the following unions:

    • Health Workers Union (HWU) Established : 1987.

    • National Public Sector Association (NAPSA) Established :

    • National Civil Service Organization (NACSO) Established :1994

    • South African Health & Public Service Workers Union (SAHPSWU) Established: 1989

    • South African Court Interpretation Officers & Allied Workers Union (SACIOAWU) Established : 1994

    • Public Servants Union (PSU) Established :

The Union have a signed up membership of approximately 60 000 and was registered with the registrar of Labour Relations in the Department of Labour on the 13th August 1998.

The following unions are co-operating with NUPSAW and have indicated willingness to come into the amalgamation.

    • Institute of Public Servants (IPS)

    • South African Public Servants Workers Union (SAPSAWU)

    • Public Servants and Allied Workers Union (PSAAWU)

It is unfortunate that the above three Unions have either disappeared or deregistrered.
